在长妈妈这一形象的塑造中，先生还赋予了她善良与爱的一面。话说先生小时因长久惦念着充满神话色彩且对儿童极富诱惑力的《山海经》，常常念叨不断，长妈妈在听说如此后，即使胸无点墨，却仍将先生的话铭记于心，克服了重重困难替先生寻到了四本。那时的先生该是既惊喜又感喟的吧，因此他在书中感叹道：“这又使我发生新的敬意了，别人不肯做，或不能做的事，她却能够做成功。她的确有伟大的神力。”长妈妈的细心与善良，使我心中对她油然而生出一股钦佩来。
