  Skill building

Loud chores, more fun.

Regular tasks allow our children to see for themselves how the world works. They grasp principles of science and math as a seed becomes a tree, as boards are transformed into bookshelves, as flour and yeast turn into bread. They develop traits such as patience. They are motivated to apply what they’re learning to more challenging endeavors of their own. Sure, it doesn’t hurt to know what it takes to grow the tomatoes, make the sauce, and prepare the beans for tonight’s enchiladas. But more importantly, as our children become proficient at the jobs necessary to sustain their families, they also see themselves as capable. That perception transfers across all endeavors.

There’s no denying that children who participate pick up useful skills. They see that maintenance is easier than waiting till the car or laptop breaks. They can set the table, toss a salad, make a sandwich, and boil pasta. Not right away, but eventually. While they are making real contributions to running the household they’re actively learninghow to cook, launder, clean, make repairs, maintain a vehicle, budget expenses, and other tasks which are essential for an independent life once they’re adults. Wonderful lessons in cause and effect are reinforced when children complete tasks and benefit from the results. Seeing oneself as an agent of useful change, priceless.

They also learn from the examples we show them, such as how to handle pressure and ways to learn from mistakes. Whether we’re four or 40, gaining competency feels good. It doesn’t hurt to give credit where it’s due. So if your child has been busychopping mangoes, strawberries, and pineapple into tasty chunks, try renaming the result “Sophie’s Special Fruit Salad” for extra reinforcement.

题目:Learning a new language is a good way to expand one’s cultural horizon.

Learning a new language is an excellent way to expand one’s cultural horizon. Not only does it offer a chance to communicate with people from different parts of the world, but it also provides a deeper understanding of their cultural perspectives and value systems. In many ways learning a new language opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

Firstly, learning a new language gives one an opportunity to become familiar with a different cultural perspective. When you speak a new language, you are forced to think about your communication from a different angle. For instance, many languages have different grammatical structures and vocabulary that reflect cultural concepts and values. By learning the language, you can better understand the ways in which people from that culture think and communicate.

Secondly, learning a new language allows one to engage with a wide range of literature and media, including films, books, and music. By experiencing cultural content in its original language, you gain a deeper appreciation of its nuances and subtleties. Moreover, as you study the language, you discover new cultural values and historical events that shaped the culture. In this way, learning a new language becomes a way to expand one’s horizons beyond one’s own country or culture.

Thirdly, learning a new language enhances one’s global competence. It increases your cultural awareness, making it easier for you to travel and do business with people from other countries. With today’s globalized economy and international markets, being able to communicate and understand different cultures is becoming increasingly important. Language learners are better equipped to navigate these cultural differences and work effectively in multicultural settings.

In conclusion, learning a new language is a powerful way to expand one’s cultural horizon. It offers a chance to communicate with people from different parts of the world, and to gain a deeper understanding of their cultural perspectives and value systems. In many ways, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Learning a new language is an investment in oneself that pays off in many ways.

Unit 4 Negative Factual Information 75

Unit 5 Sentence Simplification 99

It should be obvious that cetaceans--whales, porpoises, and dolphins--are mammals,这是OG阅读题中的一个原句。

二.n1 or n2,n1 and n2 结构

三.n1 of n2 结构

A such as B, C, D; such A as B, C, D 结构

such as 是表示举例的词组,是一种顺承关系,其后的 B,C,D 都是对 A 的进一步举例。

(1) Which one do you prefer, to solve problems on your own experience and knowledge, or to ask others for advice? As knowledge and experience serve as twim towers in problem-solving, one is often presented with two major paths that pave the way for final fulfillment, eitther to wrack his brain, just like what happened to Neuton, siiting for many years under an apple tree and eventually figuring out ond of the greatest universal rules that govern the whole globe, or to seek for others’ widsom through their advice, just as in the case of Benjinin Franklin, gathering great minds under one roof and then establishing a most world-renown libray. Both ways work. When a practical goal is involved, however, Benjimin Franklin may best be regareded as a role model in this respect and asking people for advice often turn out to be the prime alternative. Experience and knowledge borrowed or learned from others’ advice contribute greatly to effectiveness and effeciency for a goal-accomplishment. Not all experience and knowledge related to problem-solving can be obtained by personal effort alone due to limitations of mind and capabilities of each individual. A single thought in someone’s mind is, more often than not, far less shining compared with group’s wisdom. That explains the famous old saying that one sees further when standing upon the shoulders’ of past great giants; that explains why a great leader is always with greater minds; that also explains why teamwork in corperation is highly emphasized in the 21st century. Brainstorm and exchange of ideas between different thoughts never fail to enhance capabilities of each individula involved, a team, a company, an institution, a country, or even the entire global village. Asking others’ advice instead of getting everything done on one’s own promotes democracy and communication too. In terms of democracy, it is necessary to give others rights and chances to speak since the problem may concern them in different ways, and their saying in turn reflects our respect toward freedom of speech as well as their wisdom. In terms of communication, idea exchange sometimes focuses more than solutions, and hereby better mutual understanding about perspectives, principles, praticalities and personalities of each other. Admittely turning to others for help and suggestion by no means refers to absolute and irresponsible dependence. Consideration upon different thoughts and ideas broadens our mind, enlarges our vision, furthers understanding, enhances more effective and efficient brainstorm, and stresses mutual respect in groups and communities, which undoubtedly gives rise to better, if not the best solutions. As is paraphrased from John F Kenedy, brainstormed, there is little we cannot do while divided, there is little we can do.

(3) After they complete their university studies, some students live in their hometowns. Others live in different towns and cities. Which do you think is beterr? Give reasons for your answer. After they complete their univerrsity studies, some students preferr to live in their hometowns while others choose to live in different towns or cities. Everybody has his own reasons for his preference. After my graduation, I will go back and live in my home city. I have made this decision because of the following reasons. Firstly, my home city is a big city that can offer a lot. There are plenty of opportunities for work, many big libraries for studies, several differrent musiums for visit, and numerous cinemas, theaters and centers for entertainment. When I go back there, I will have no difficulty in finding a job suitable for me and I can make use of all the facilities available there. Secondly, if I go back to my home city, I can look after my parents. I take this into consideration because I am their only child and they are now weak and getting on in age. If I live in the same city with them, I can visit them very often and help them whenever it is necessary. Thirdly, if I live in my home city, I will have a lot of friends, schoolmates and relatives to visit and to turn to for help when I need. Of course, I could get acquainted with many people and make many friends if I were to go to live in a strange place, but that takes time. If I go back to my home city, everybody will be waiting for me and I will be able to settle down comfortably without any trouble and waste of time. In short, my choise is based on a careful consideration of my home city and my family. I think it is a better or sensible choice; in a certain sense, it is a must. Neighbors are the people who live near us. In your opinion, what are the qualities of a good neighbor? Use specific details and examples in your answer.

(4) If you have a good neighbor, you are a lucky person. You have someone who cares about your needs and your property, who is helpful in the little day-to-day situations that come up, and who is supportive in times of crisis. A good neighbor is someone who, for instance, understands that your children may occasionally run across his lawn,- even though you tell them not to. He'll realize that children can be careless about things like that, and he won't make a big fuss about it unless it becomes a regular thing. In the same vein, he knows that you'll understand if some of the trash from his trash cans blows across into your yard. In other words, he is sensitive to the unintentional things that can happen. He doesn't make a big deal about them. A good neighbor is also respectful of your property. For example, she asks your permission before doing anything that interferes with what's yours. This means she wouldn't plant a huge tree in between your houses without asking how you felt about it. If she wanted to put up a fence, she would let you know first. She might work with you to decide where it should be placed. Maybe the two of you would even split the cost. A good neighbor would lend you some milk if you ran out. She'd give you a ride to work if your car was broken, and let your children stay at her house in the evening if you got stuck working overtime. You would do the same for her. Both of you would help make the other's life easier. When something really awful happens to you, like a death in the family, a good neighbor will volunteer to help in any way he can. This could mean something small, like making some casseroles to put in your freezer to feed visiting relatives. Or it could mean something big, like helping you get through the sadness of the funeral. I think only someone who has experienced a bad neighbor can really appreciate a good one! A good neighbor can be a good friend. He or she can make all the difference in the world to your life.

比如说,在文章最后一句话 说 :In a word, it is rather superficial to simply say that……+观点,给个真题例子:In a word, it is rather superficial to simply say that parents are the best teachers.

Sorry, as an AI language model, I am not able to generate full length articles, but I can provide a sample essay as a reference for a "TOEFL Courseware" topic.

The Importance of TOEFL Courseware in Preparing for the Exam

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is one of the most widely recognized English proficiency exams in the world. It plays a critical role in the lives of non-native speakers of English who seek quality education and work opportunities abroad. As such, the TOEFL exam is known to be challenging and demanding, requiring ample preparation time and effort in order to achieve the desired score. One of the most effective ways to prepare for the TOEFL exam is through the use of TOEFL courseware. This essay discusses the importance of TOEFL courseware in preparing for the exam, outlining its benefits, and highlighting some of the best online resources available.

TOEFL courseware is designed to provide test-takers with the necessary skills and knowledge to pass the exam. The courseware features comprehensive lessons and practice tests that cover all four sections of the test: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. The courseware offers in-depth explanations of the exam format, scoring system, and question types to help test-takers become familiar with the test structure and content. Additionally, TOEFL courseware provides support and guidance that can help boost test-takers' confidence and alleviate anxiety, which can often be an obstacle during the exam.

In terms of specific benefits, TOEFL courseware can help test-takers improve their English language skills in a targeted way. For instance, the Reading section of the TOEFL exam tests a range of reading skills, such as comprehension, inference, and analysis. TOEFL courseware can help test-takers improve their reading skills by providing strategies for tackling complex passages, as well as exercises that reinforce vocabulary and grammar. Similarly, the Listening section of the exam can be challenging due to the variety of accents and speech patterns used in the recordings. TOEFL courseware can help test-takers improve their listening skills by providing practice exercises that familiarize them with different accents and speech patterns, as well as strategies for taking effective notes.

Another benefit of TOEFL courseware is the availability of personalized feedback. Not only do courseware providers offer practice tests, but they also offer feedback and analysis of performance. This feedback allows students to monitor their progress, identify areas of strength and weakness, and adjust their study approach accordingly. The individualized feedback system is particularly helpful for students who have specific goals or areas of concern that they want to improve upon.

As for the best online resources available, there are several reputable institutions that provide quality TOEFL courseware. The official ETS website offers a range of free and paid materials, including sample test questions, study guides, and online courses. Other online platforms, such as Kaplan and Magoosh, provide comprehensive online courses and practice materials that incorporate a similar feedback and analysis system.

In conclusion, TOEFL courseware is an essential tool for test-takers seeking to achieve their desired score on the exam. It offers comprehensive lessons and practice tests, personalized feedback, and targeted improvement strategies, which can all help test-takers improve their English skills and increase their overall confidence. With the wealth of online resources available, preparation for the TOEFL exam has never been more accessible, and test-takers should take advantage of this opportunity to achieve their goals and unlock a world of opportunities.

Perhaps one of the most dramatic andimportant changes that took place in the Mesozoic era occurred late in thatera, among the small organisms that populate the uppermost, sunlit portion ofthe oceans the plankton. The term “plankton” is a broad one, designating all of the small plants and animals that float about or weaklypropel themselves through the sea. In the late stages of the Mesozoic era, during the Cretaceous period, there was a great expansion of plankton thatprecipitated skeletons or shells composed of two types of mineral: silica andcalcium carbonate.

This development radically changed the typesof sediments that accumulated on the seafloor, because, while the organic partsof the plankton decayed after the organisms died, their mineralized skeletonsoften survived and sank to the bottom. For the first time in the Earth's longhistory, very large quantities of silica skeletons, which would eventuallyharden into rock, began to pile up in parts of the deep sea. Thick deposits ofcalcareous ooze made up of the tiny remains of the calcium carbonate-secretingplankton also accumulated as never before. The famous white chalk cliffs ofDover, in the southeast of England, are just one example of the huge quantitiesof such material that amassed during the Cretaceous period; there are manymore. Just why the calcareous plankton were so prolific during the latter partof the Cretaceous period is not fully understood. Such massive amounts ofchalky sediments have never since been deposited over a comparable period oftime.

Thehigh biological productivity of the Cretaceous oceans also led to idealconditions for oil accumulation. Oil is formed when organic material trapped insediments is slowly buried and subjected to increased temperatures andpressures, transforming it into petroleum. Sediments rich in organic materialaccumulated along the margins of the Tethys Seaway, the tropical east-westocean that formed when Earth's single landmass (known as Pangaea) split apartduring the Mesozoic era. Many of today's important oil fields are found inthose sediments in Russia, the Middle East, the Gulf of Mexico, and in thestates of Texas and Louisiana in the United States.

(1) Topic Sentence

A flood of ice would then surge into the Southern Sea. With the continued rise in sea level, more ice would plunge into the ocean, causing sea levels to rise even higher, which in turn would release more ice and set in motion a vicious cycle. (A) drop?(B) extend (C) melt (D) drift。

1.Lichens helped to speed the decomposition of the hard rock surfaces, preparing a soft bed of soil that was abundantly supplied with minerals that had been carried in the molten rock from the bowels of Earth.

2.By far the most abundant form of geothermal energy occurs at the relatively low temperatures of 80°to 180°centigrade.

A) The man should stick to what he's doing.B) The man should take up a newhobby.C) The manshould stop playing tennis. D) The man should find the cause for his failure.

9. M: I think I'm going to give up playing tennis. I lost againtoday.W: Just because you lost? It that thereason to quit?Q: What does the woman imply?
