The school master Dr. Huxtable then turned to the famous detective of the time Sherlock Holmes for help. Realizing how tough and important the case is, Holmes immediately made up his mind to accept the case and followed Dr. Huxtable back to Mackleton by train. Having formed a rough idea about the whole matter, Holmes probed into the case immediately and had a careful investigation of the entire area shortly after the arrival, during the process of which he discovered the body of the German teacher Heidegger. Finally, primarily due to his prominent ability as a detective, he managed to unravel the mystery and obtained the twelve thousand pounds promised by the Duke.
Having once started reading this fiction, I was completely immersed in the mysterious story presented by the book. As the saying goes, Well begun, half done。 At the beginning of the story, just like many other detective stories, the author gives us a brief description of the condition by the words of a client. However, unlike other ones, this story first delineates the clients strange behavior at length to indicate the severity of the incident in order to attract the readers to continue reading it. As is known to all, vivid depiction is essential to detective stories since it can help the readers understand each figures characteristics and visualize the scenes, thus making the story more authentic and attractive. Therefore, trying to present a real world to his readership, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the original Holmes series， has skillfully arranged the plots of the whole story from the perspective of Dr. Watson, a character not so specialized in discovering the truth hidden behind the enigmatic happenings as Holmes but so loyal to Sherlock Homes as a friend that he always accompanies Holmes wherever he goes. In this way, he elaborately depicted every scene and character in the book, Apart from the special start, the ending of the whole story, being dramatic but reasonable, is certainly an outstanding one. After all, except the author himself, who knows that the Dukes seemingly ordinary secretary is in fact the Dukes bastard? In addition, who knows that the Duke actually has already been acquainted with the whole thing before Holmes solves this complicated problem? Yet, surprising as it is, this ending seems so natural that it fits all the plots of the story perfectly well. While enjoying this wonderful story, I could do nothing but admire the wonderful design of this masterpiece as well as the authors gorgeous writing skill. Closing my eyes, I can even see the story happening just like watching a film. Not until then did I understand why the Japanese cartoon film Detective Conan used this Conan as the name of its hero.
As far as I am concerned, nothing is more admirable and surprising in the hero Sherlock Homes than his profound knowledge which has certainly assisted him a lot when he was studying the case. Take the bicycle tyres for instance, Holmes actually is capable of recognizing 42 different varieties of bicycle tyres. Whats more, according to his other stories, Holmes has studied different kinds of newspapers, cigarettes, peoples footprints and other special things as well. Therefore, he seems to have the mastery of anything relevant to the cases he deals with. Except for his illimitable knowledge, Holmes also specializes in arranging the facts in order and then finding the fact leading him to a GREat discovery or even the truth itself. From his speaking Every mystery has an answer， we can readily shape the impression of a man with great intelligence and inflexible will. In this case, after getting rid of unrelated facts, Sherlock Homes eventually grasped the clue and discovered the amazing fact.

用了几天断断续续地读完了《刀锋》这本书，这是我读的毛姆的第三本书了，有个朋友说，我爱上了毛姆，我想应该是的。
这本书并不是一本小说，我原本期待它是，刚读开头的时候也感觉像是小说，可是读到了后面，我也说不出了它是一本什么类型的书了。
我想形容这本书为枯燥。像是和你刚认识的一个新朋友，两个人坐在一个舒适的咖啡店里，那是一个早晨，阳光正明媚，还有几声鸟叫，落地窗外行人来来往往，很富有生活气息。然后这个新朋友和你述说他的朋友的种种经历，把他听来的或遇到的人和事串联起来，说给你听。刚开始，你听得很入迷，觉得很新颖有趣，但是到了中午了，他仍然用同一种语调在述说着，燥热的阳光直射透明的落地玻璃，久不进食的肚子开始饥饿，你开始没办法聚精会神地去听他述说，甚至有点想逃避。
本来我是读不下去的，可是前天和一个朋友聊天，有些想法让我困惑。这时，有个直觉告诉我，读书能够让我找到答案，于是我又重新拿起这本书来读。重新读这本书，我感觉自己又重新把毛姆约到咖啡店了，他并不介意之前发生的事，仍然不急不慢地述说着，这次，我甚至忘记了要吃饭了，直到中午快1点的时候才意识到自己还没有吃饭。
其实我是没有读完这本书的，因为它的结局比它的开头、中间要更加无趣，但是我又急想知道它的结局，于是最后十几页，我快速地把文字看了，即使没有读懂，我也照样跳过，就像这位新朋友自认说到高潮时，我坐在对面微笑着点点头，使他信服我已经理解他的意思。
其实自己的思想已经不在此处了，脑海里浮现的是想象中在西藏朝拜的人民，我没有信仰，但是我又尊敬甚至敬畏那些有信仰的人，当然这不包括大多数中国人信仰的鬼神。想起西藏朝拜是因为前两天，一个朋友提起的，问我对于去西藏朝拜有没有兴趣，我当时并没有多想，但没想到它一直印在我的脑海中。
与毛姆在咖啡店里告别后，我走在一条小街上，天下着蒙蒙细雨，我喜欢这种雨天，它能够冲洗暴露在外面的一切，使之重新染上鲜艳的色彩，比如鲜红的滑滑梯、翠绿的叶子、连平时灰暗的小路都感觉更加有活力，雨滴在它上面跳跃。我在路上，撑着伞，感觉自己像是获得了什么，但却又说不出来是什么。毛姆述说的那个朋友——拉里，他整个人生只做了一件事，就是“晃膀子”，这是我一直梦想要做的事。拉里从17岁当飞行员回来后，就一直我行我素，由于没有家人，但有一笔不错的遗产，因此他可以拒绝他不想做的事，包括读大学、一份相当不错的工作，而选择去“流浪”，其实他原本应该没打算这样做的，只不过开了头，去了趟巴黎，后来就收不住这种随意自由的生活，后来还去了印度生活了五年。
我太羡慕他了，可是我自认为我没有勇气去做这种事情，即使仅仅如朋友所说的去西藏朝拜，可能只是一个月的时间，但我还是鼓不起勇气，我很难不去考虑路上会遇到的种种危险和困难，也很难不去考虑会把我皮肤晒得像煤炭一般黑的烈日，这两件事就足以打消我冲动下萌发的想法。因此，读这本书，让我知道有人真的把我想做的事实现了，而且过得还不坏，很宁静，这让我有种说不出的滋味，是羡慕呢？还是欣慰呢？或是对自己懦弱的鄙视呢？
书中说到，修行并不是要去找什么老师、看什么书、做什么事、或者举行什么仪式，而是要“看透”，我不记得这段话是出自《刀锋》这本书，还是在看书时我跑去翻阅有关西藏朝拜的书时看到的了，我总是这样贪心，不能一心一意读一本书。
我经常留意自己的思想，我自认为自己现在变得比过去任何一个时候都要豁达，也就是更加能够看透了。我把这归功于在长春的几个月时光，那段日子或许是目前为止我最最喜欢的，那几个月我读的书并不多，但是独处的'时间却很多，经常自己一个人跑出去外面瞎溜达，周围没有一个人认识，身体在路上，或者停了下来在休息，全然不管，脑子里只顾想着东西。那时候经常会在湖边坐着，如果没有什么要紧事，我可能可以坐上几个小时也浑然不知时间的流逝，以至于后来我一坐到湖边，就要拿起手机调个闹钟。我很喜欢水，湖水、河流、海洋、雨水等等都是我喜欢的。望着湖水不急不慢的涟漪，我内心就会很平静，有时候会想一些问题，但是更多的时候是放空的状态，那种感觉很好，那是我回到广州以后再也找不到的感觉。
这本书，我不打算推荐给大家去读，不过有缘分的话，你自然会拿起它，体会一下和一个富有思想的人在咖啡店里度过一天的感受，或许会很枯燥，但事后又会觉得很值得。

其实我们没有几个人能真正见过野外生存的狼，但他们的确和我们人类一样世世代代繁衍在这个地球上，只不过他们为了躲避人类的捕杀而隐藏在穷山野沟或茫茫草原中了，虽生存环境恶劣，但他们生生不息，而兽中之王的狮子、老虎却沦落到需要人工繁殖才能延续种族的地步了。究其缘由，妄大的兽中之王总是独来独往，而狼却咬着冷冷的牙，在凄风中顽强地寻找着食物，支撑他们的是身边的家族，因为他不是一个人在战斗。他们最关心的是如何做对集体有利，如何默默的配合才能狩猎成功，而这些已经超越了人类的深层意识，让人望尘莫及了。狗却不用去考虑这些，因为他有高跷摇晃的尾巴，他能寄人篱下，他有嗟来之食，实在没了食物，屎也是不错的选择。而狼却始终拖着尾巴，行走在冷冷的黑夜，为了生存而不断地行走着。我时常在想，狼的奔走何时而止？何时才能卸落他的疲惫？是不是将永远奔走，永不停息，直至变成寒夜中的一部分？他的胃，除了肉，什么都容纳不了，即使饿极至死也不会啃食一叶青草。这也许就是我最最为之敬仰的原因吧，因为走进了他，你会发现他其实就是你一直苦苦寻找着的、为之神往的、执着的行者！
曾经听说过一个故事，有只狼的幼崽自小被人和狗放在一起驯养，从小狼也滑稽地学着狗叫，突然有一天，本性迸发，他仰天长嗥，吓得一起长大的狗瑟瑟发抖。还曾听说，当猎人追赶一只落单的狼，被逼到走投无路时，即使前面是悬崖他也会纵身跃下，如果前面没有悬崖，他也会保持一个高贵的姿势，泰然面对猎人的尖刀。而狗就识时务得多了，当主人皮鞭高举，尚未落下时，他就立马呜咽倒地，摇尾乞怜，甚至一个“萌萌哒”就能换回主人的爱抚。外形相似的狼和狗缘何这么格格不入呢？究其根源还是“狼性”了，狗在进化的过程中学会了很多“生存之道”，但也渐渐丢失了“狼性”，成了众人口中的“狗奴才”了。
可喜的是很多人都和我一样有同感了。我要感谢一部动画片和一首歌，为狼树碑立传。动画片《喜羊羊和灰太狼》不仅是孩子喜欢的，我也很喜欢，难怪现在的女生都说“嫁人就嫁灰太狼”，说灰太狼聪明能干、吃苦耐劳、爱老婆胜过爱自己、感情还十分专一。原来狼的这些优点的根源是他对感情的专一，你万万没想到的是狼------“一夫一妻”制。再看看狗，无论在街头巷尾，还是墙角旮旯，随时都能看到他们交配的身影，而且还经常“跨种族”作战。“我是一匹来自北方的狼，走在无垠的旷野中，凄厉的北方吹过，漫漫的黄沙掠过，我只有咬着冷冷的牙，不为别的，只为那传说中美丽的草原。。。。。。”寒风中再次响起齐秦那凄凉激昂的歌声。
